Microbiology Lab Receives State-of-the-art Microscan System
Oak Valley Hospital received a new Microscan
system as a gift from Oak Valley Hospital Foundation.
The Microscan System is considered the heart
of the Microbiology department. This state-of-the-art
instrument identifies the bacteria and determines which antibiotics
will be most effective against the organism in treating an
infection. Its large database of information exceeds what the
human mind can retain and assists the physician in optimizing
antibiotic therapy for a particular bacterium and site of
infection.
The Microscan was purchased with proceeds
from the Foundation's Annual Spring Gala "An Evening Beyond the
Great Wall." Executive Director Amy Thompson said the Gala
was a great success with 327 members of our local community in
attendance and a net profit over $75,000. Once again, we are
reminded of the generosity that is in the hearts of our friends and
neighbors.
The Microscan has the ability to touch the
lives of many in our community and will greatly benefit not only
our hospital but our medical staff and patients.
